Physiotherapy

Physical therapists or physiotherapists are an integral part of your health care team.  Physical therapists have a detailed understanding of how the body works and are university educated to assess, diagnose and treat dysfunction caused by pain, injury, disease or condition.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a holistic form of health care that deals primarily with maintaining proper function of the neuromusculoskeletal system.  Chiropractors employ the use of light, non-invasive chiropractic adjustments to help restore normal joint motion which effectively reduces pain by allowing the muscles, ligaments, and nerves to function under the least amount of stress.  They also use soft tissue therapy, stretching and strengthening exercises.  Chiropractors have not only had success treating most spinal complaints, such as back and neck pain but can also work with injuries to extremities, repetitive injuries, sport injuries, whiplash and tension/migraine headaches.

Massage Therapy

We retain massage therapy services for clients at the request of patrons or on medical referral for treatment of injuries, sport massage or relaxation.  Our therapist are fully licensed, registered and have a minimum of a 1000 hour program and practical experience.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese medicine and involves the use of sterile disposable needles to treat a broad spectrum of physical problems patients may have.  It is used in conjunction with physiotherapy to help aid in rehabilitation.

IMS involves using sterile disposable acupuncture needles to specifically target taut muscle bands that have contracted and become shortened from distress.  IMS treatment causes the muscle to “grasp” the needle (a welcomed sensation) which in turn forces the shortened muscle to release.  The goal of treatment is to normalize the muscle, affected nerves and provide pain relief.

A few conditions that can be treated by Acupuncture / IMS are:

 Motor Vehicle Accidents

  • Athletic Injuries
  • Repetitive Strain Injuries
  • Post Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Back and Neck pain

Psychology

A psychologist is someone who has gone through years of study and supervised training to help people with troubling thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. A psychologist is trained to apply scientifically validated techniques to help people with everyday problems as well as problems that might need more expertise Only those who have been approved and licensed by the College of Alberta Psychologists can use the title “psychologist” in the course of their work. That’s why when you’re seeing a psychologist, you can trust that he/she has the adequate expertise to help you.

A psychologist is trained to help people with a variety of emotional and behavioural problems:

  • relationship problems
  • depression
  • anxiety/stress management
  • A psychologist can also help to improve a variety of physical problems:
  • headaches
  • chronic pain
  • sleep difficulties
  • physical problems related to chronic stress

One of the most important components of effective treatment is establishing a relationship of respect and trust. Your psychologist knows this, and will do everything possible to help you feel at ease and comfortable as you are discussing your problem. During the first session, the psychologist will ask you questions about your problem in order to get a good understanding of how it is affecting you, and may be affecting your family and others important to you. The psychologist will then be able to make recommendations for helpful changes and then assist you to make those changes if desired.
